Mystery Scrap Week 13 (Monday)

Sorry I didn't get this posted earlier in the day - usually I do the page & posts on Sunday so they are all ready to go each day. I got caught up in a much needed weekend of relaxing.  Layout a Day is coming to a close and while I love it, between that and all the weekend events during May, I need at least a week to regain control of my house!  Anyway - for this week's Mystery Scrap, you will need 3 landscape oriented pictures - 4x6 - then trim off about .5" of length. Your title can be short or long and journaling will be in a space ~ 2.5" by 4". See ya Wednesday!

Mystery Scrap Week 12 (Friday)

TGIF! For such an easy page in theory, this page took me way too long to put together.  This week's mystery scrap is based on this layout on the Scrapbooks Etc website by Kelly Noel.  I've been wanting to do a page about a crazy morning that involved a rotten banana and about a zillion ants in my 1st graders's bookbag.  There's a ton of journaling, so the little strips of journaling weren't going to work on my page - so instead I just did a block and matted it. I also changed it around and put my title on one of the small pieces because I thought it would show up a little better.  Here is my page.. (Journaling below)

What did you come up with? Post your page to our Flickr group so we can all see each others! Tag it Mystery12.
Journaling: Getting to work in the morning is no easy feat. Getting everyone up, dressed & out the door with everything necessary for school/daycare/work sometimes makes me feel like I could use a nap before I make it to my desk. Breakfast to be made/eaten, lunches to be packed, tennis shoes to be tied, hair to be brushed (sometimes I get to work and realize I haven’t brushed my own!)  Normally after a couple of “Hurry Ups” we get out the door on time.  One morning in September we took it to a whole new level. I had fixed breakfast for E & M, packed lunch for myself & Evan and packed sandwiches & chips for dinner before Karate.  We got in the car, went down the hill to the bus stop and Evan asked if I’d packed her a snack for school.  I dug through the other bags and came up with the bag of chips – so I gave her that. Then she opened her bookbag and says “Uhoh Mom. My bookbag is full of ants.”  OH. CRAP.  Of course there was nothing in the car to use to wipe out the bookbag.  I started pulling things out.  Her folder – crawling with ants.  A box of Kleenex that was to be turned in yesterday as part of her supplies.  Not only covered in ants, but suspiciously sticky on the bottom.  Then I found it. A ziplock bag with a mysterious mushy black substance.  I pulled it out and asked her WHAT it was.  “Oh.  I think it’s the banana.”  So, Banana in ziplock baggie goes out the door of the car.  Yes, I hate to say it, but I littered.  I tried wiping out the ants with gobs of Kleenex and that didn’t do a thing.  So we zipped back up the hill and I ran inside. Threw the bag on the kitchen floor and doused it with antspray. Ran upstairs and grabbed last year’s bookbag, ran downstairs, dumped out the 300 toys that were living in there, grabbed a paper towel and sprayed with antspray – ran back outside, zipped down the hill and somehow got most of the dead ants out of the folder before the bus came!

Mystery Scrap Week 12 (Monday)

So - Crop for a Cure went really well on Saturday. We had a great group of women and I think everyone had a good time.  I'm already brainstorming for the 2012 event!  If you're new to the blog - check out some of the older posts and get some ideas for easy pages that can be completed in about 15 minutes, three times a week - an idea we call Mystery Scrap.
This week's page is going to be a super super easy one.  Why? Because my house looks like an Amazon.com warehouse right now. Between all the stuff from C4AC & all the 5 billion boxes that have been delivered for my hubby's new business, there are boxes EVERYWHERE and now that our big stuff in May is behind us, it's time to recover my house!
You will need one portrait oriented 4x6.  Your title will be short (1 or 2 words) and you will have about a 6x7 area for journaling.  See ya back here Weds for what papers & embellishments you will need to gather.  Then, Friday, I'll reveal the page I made and the page/blog from which is was scraplifted.

Mystery Scrap Week 11 (Friday)

This week I did something kinda crazy.  I scraplifted a page that I have already scraplifted once.  I can't help it. I LOVE this page. Every time I see it, I love it. SO - I figure, these are not going to be right next to each other. They probably won't even be in the same album!  Why not? If it works, use it again!
So - if you don't have this woman's blog bookmarked already, you are SO gonna wanna bookmark it now.  Here is a link to her blog and another link to the page.
Here is the one I made this week - eh. Doesn't knock me out BUT it's another story told. Not a real exciting one, but it's a little bit of who I am and even a little bit of who Chris is.

and a picture when I first scraplifted it back in October (it's the one of the left).

Ok - now go forth and create! Post a copy of what you come up with to our Flickr group so we can all oooh & aaah over it! Wish me luck this weekend with Crop for a Cure!

Mystery Scrap Week 11 (Wednesday)

To gather for this week's Mystery Scrap...
a 12x12 for your background - solid color!
a shaped white piece almost as big as the 12x12 background. I don't know how to describe except to say mine looks like it has braces (these things {}) for all 4 sides...
9 punched pieces (butterflies, hearts, stars, circles, etc) approx 1.5"tall & wide- this could be a variety of patterned papers or what I did was 8 of one color and 1 of a different color (you could also use similar embellishments they don't have to be punches)

Mystery Scrap Week 11 (Monday)

YIPPEEE!!!  Less than a week until Crop for a Cure!  I am so excited I don't know how I will sleep (or get through 4 days of work this week!) Ok - on to Mystery Scrap for the week.
Easy page this week - only one photo needed a 4x4 inch square.  Title can be long (stretch across page) or short (repeated across page).  Journaling - space is ~ 2.5 tall by 5 wide. See you back here Wednesday!

Mystery Scrap Week 10 (Friday)

Today's page layout is based on this layout by Celeste Smith. And, it was also my Layout A Day layout for Sunday 5/7.  I think creating this one is pretty self-explanatory so I will just get right to the picture.  This is one I will probably put in my repertoire & use over & over.  Enjoy!  Post to our Flickr Group and tag as Mystery10.

Mystery Scrap Week 10 (Wednesday)

For this page, you will need:
12x12 background

a variety of embellishments that will make kind of a border - punched objects especially the same shape in different sizes
a sticker border or paper punched border
various tiny embellishments - gems, i-rock bling, brads, eyelets, glitter/shimmer mist would also work for this element
Ok - get to it! See ya Friday!

Mystery Scrap Week 10 (Monday)

This is Mystery Scrap Week 10 (hopefully you didn't see it for the 2 minutes I accidentally had it posted yesterday!  A simple but cute one this week - you will need two portrait oriented 4x6 photos. I didn't use a title this week, but there will be plenty of space for one if you have one!  If you've been out of the game for a while, this is a good one to get you back to making your Mystery Scrap page a week!

Little Miss Personality

Little Miss Personality by hokiechef
Little Miss Personality, a photo by hokiechef on Flickr.

As I was working on this page for LOAD Day 5, I was trying to pick a font to cut out Personality. Let me just tell you... The more you look at the word, the stranger it looks. I kept wanting to look it up to make sure I was spelling it correctly!

Mystery Scrap Week 9 (Friday)

The inspiration for this week's layout is this page by Roxanne Jegodtka.  Here is my take on it.
I just learned how to make the rolled paper roses and I thought they'd be perfect on this layout because they kind of looked like the flowers on my girls dresses & in their hair.  However, the glitter didn't turn out quite the way I thought it would. I thought it would just be a touch of glitter, but was a lot more than I wanted.  Let's see your take on this layout. Upload your photo to Flickr and tag as Mystery 8!

LOAD Day 4

My girls by hokiechef

I like this one. Super simple, but a great pic of the girls.

Textured Letter Technique

On tomorrow's layout, I used a technique I read about in one of my scrapbook magazines. Here's a little sneak peak
This was so easy and I think it really adds some impact to my page.  Wanna know how to do this?
First, I set up my letters on my Pazzles Inspiration and found a font that I liked - kinda thick. I'm sure you can do something similar on your Cricut.  Cut out two sets of whatever words you are using.  Run one set through a paper crimper and then attach pop dots to the back of the crimped letters.  Adhere the plain (uncrimped) letters to your page. Then adhere the popdotted, crimped letters to the plain ones. Adds dimension & texture all at once!  As an alternative, you could also use your embossing tool of choice to add a different type of texture.  Check back tomorrow for the Friday reveal and see the full page! Let me know what you think if you try this technique!

LOAD Day 1

The Things You Say by hokiechef
The Things You Say, a photo by hokiechef on Flickr.

So I've been telling you all about LOAD and how much fun it is... So, I thought I'd share some of the layouts I create along the way. Here is May 1. I got my "scrapup" room all cleaned up and ready to go. Betcha by the end of May, it'll be a total disaster!
